Dear New Third Graders and Parents,
Welcome to the third grade. My Name is Mrs. Kern. This is my fifth year at Westridge. Before coming to Westridge, I taught third grade at Belmont Elementary. I grew up in central Ohio. I received my bachelors degree in Education from Ohio University and my masters degree in Literacy from Ashland University. I live in Lake Ridge with my husband and daughter. I really enjoy living and working in this wonderful community.
This year we will be learning many new and exciting things. Reading comprehension is an important skill in third grade. We will be reading many great stories from our reading anthology book and also a few novels. We will learn different ways to use and work with numbers. An exciting math skill that we will learn in third grade is multiplication. In Social Studies we will explore Ancient Greece, Rome, and Mali, learn the foundations of our government, discover early America with European Explorers, and develop a beginning understanding of economics. In Science we will learn about animals and life systems, the Earth, Moon, and Sun relationships, matter, energy, and conservation.
I am sure this will be a wonderful year. I appreciate all the hard work and dedication that goes into being a parent and I am open to parent involvement. Please let me if you have any questions or concerns during the year. My e-mail address is kernrr@pwcs.edu.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Rebecca Kern
